about the project
A conceptual website project for the music festival WARM. The website aimed to balance the festival's bold, edgy, and modern image with a minimalist and user-friendly design.
competitive analysis
To better understand the competitive landscape of music festivals and inform my design decisions for the website, I conducted a competitive analysis of other festivals in the same genre. I focused my research on festivals that attract a similar target audience, such as Sonar, Primavera Sound, and MELT.
I analysed each festival's website to identify common design elements and features, as well as areas where they differed. The findings include:
Visual Design: All of the festival websites featured bold and eye-catching visuals that conveyed the festival's brand and atmosphere.
Navigation: Navigation on the festival websites was generally clear and intuitive. All websites had a main navigation bar at the top of the page, with links to key sections of the site.
Lineup: The lineup section was prominently featured on all festival websites. Some festivals presented their artist lineup using only text, while others incorporated visual elements such as pictures and videos.
Ticketing: All of the festival websites included information on ticket pricing and purchasing options, as well as details on any special promotions or discounts available.
FAQ Section: Many of the festival websites included a FAQ section that provided answers to common questions about the festival, such as information on nearby accommodations, transportation options etc.
Mobile Responsiveness: All of the websites were optimized for mobile devices.
user interviews
I conducted a total of 3 interviews with music festival attendees, with the goal of understanding their preferences and behaviours related to music festivals. These insights were used to inform the design of the festival's page.
Key findings from the interviews:
Attendees value clear and concise information about the festival, such as the lineup and ticketing information.
Many attendees appreciate visual elements such as photos and videos of past festivals, which help them get a better sense of the overall experience.
Attendees often browse festivals on their mobile devices, so a mobile-friendly landing page with quick and easy access to key information is essential.
Social media plays a significant role in how attendees learn about festivals and share their experiences, so social media integration on the landing page can be beneficial.
The festival lineup was identified as the most valuable information for attendees (this eventually influenced the structure and hierarchy of the website).
